Meet Madhuri – Master Seamstress
Madhuri, our seamstress from Jaipur Rajasthan, started out learning and perfecting her skills at a young age working on samples for companies. Through hard work and perseverance, she worked her way up to produce final products for market. Her favourite part of the job is stitching, where she uses her most valuable tool, patience, to perfect each of our products.
One of the types of stitching she uses for our bedcovers and quilts is called Kantha stitching. This is one of the oldest forms of embroidery which originated in India many centuries ago and is past down from mother to daughter. This running stitch, used on our quilts and bedcovers, is said to have been inspired by the fields which were a usual setting around the woman at the time. Fabric is layered on top of each other and hand stitched together.
Madhuri is very proud to know her products and part of her heritage are enjoyed and appreciated by many different people from all around the world
