Description

We combed India to find these very special hand carved once – off reclaimed Indian bride’s dowry chest or Damchiya, and restored them to their former glory. The intricately carved and decorated cabinet, with hinged door, give access to the spacious cabinet. Dowry refers to the gifts that a bride receives from her family. The new bride would bring her Damchiya chest to her new home on the wedding day, and these items would become a part of her new household. The chests not only served the purpose of storing the dowry but were also proudly featured as one of the main pieces of furniture. Please note that these pieces are very old and restored, and therefore slight imperfections can be expected.
