Meet Komarudin – Yuni Lamps

About Komarudin

Name of artisan

Kediri, East Java

How did you learn your skills?
Learnt all my weaving techniques by job shadowing at my first job as a young boy in Java.

What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job Is working on the challenge of a new design and watching as it comes to life.

If you had one wish what would it be?
I would love to have a larger workshop with more workers and focus more on new designs.

Do you feel proud when you know that your skill is being shared all over the world in homes and why?
Yes, I am very proud to know that our designs are shared all over the world, especially in South Africa which is very far away from Bali

Background about your products and process to make them:
First we study the design so we can visualize the frame for the lamp. We then prepare and treat the raw materials for the design, either rattan or bamboo. The frame is then made, after which the weaving begins. Once completed we do final checks and then the item is ready.

Artisanal goods which celebrate life through their stories, colour, texture, and craftsmanship
